Some design themes are all too ubiquitous in the hotel world – Oriental orchids, minimalist lines, and Regency beds are scattered around cities with a generous hand – but if you’ve always hankered after a little Communist chic, a dash of GDR design with your overnighter, then this is the place for you. Yes, it’s a bit bizarre and kind of like being trapped in a time-capsule, but for the culturally curious a night here is as well-spent as a day trekking round a museum – with a bed included. Choose from singles, doubles or a simple bunk in the ‘Pioneer Camp’ dorm, all with garish graphic wallpaper and original fixtures and fittings.
