Following the by now well-known Soho House formula, the six-floor hotel and private members club holds a rooftop bar and pool, private screening room, and signature Cowshed spa and gym, with a Cecconi’s restaurant opening later in the summer. Accommodation options in this marble-floored Bauhaus structure range from small dormitory-style singles in the attic to extra large rooms with dining and sofa areas. Members benefit from reduced rates for all 40 guestrooms.
There’s no lack of history to this building, having served first as Jewish department store and later as the headquarters to Adolf’s youth paramilitary Hitler-Jugend organisation before housing the Communist Party during the Soviet rule of East Berlin. An, ehem, colourful past, the most recent incarnation has been referred to rather cheekily – or insensitively, some might say – in the naming of the second floor bar and dining area ‘Politburo’. Nick Jones’s empire takes another step towards ruling the world.
