The original urban beach in Berlin, first sanding the Spree riverbank back in 2002, the Strandbar Mitte is a pretty civilised affair, although considerably less buttoned-up than, say, the BundesPressStrand, and it attracts a well-behaved twenty-something crowd. It’s on a fairly narrow strip but still manages to fit in an impressive amount of loungers and room for a volleyball net, and there are several lawns to take the overflow. Great to chill out after sightseeing on the Museum Island, or just for taking in the views of the beautiful buildings, cocktail in hand.
