Time flies and although Victoria Bar is no longer the new kid on the block, it continues to dazzle with its world class mixology and stylish design. The slick interior, which won it awards and accolades when it opened back in 2001, may have begun to show some wear and tear, but the cocktails only seem to get better. Good thing, because the crowd – a civilised mix that isn’t particularly gay but at thirty-something is younger than at Newton – likes to knock them down here, with daily happy hours and a Sunday drinking society, the “Schule der Trunkenheit”. The food – though obviously playing second fiddle – is also surprisingly good.
