If 60by80 is your contemporary compass to gay Berlin but you’d like to dig a little deeper into the city’s homosexual history, make time to visit the Schwules Museum in Kreuzberg which has just turned 25 years old.
A permanent exhibition has finally been installed, encompassing everything from the history of homosexuals during the Holocaust to modern day gay pride, contemporary understanding and gay life in Berlin.
There are also popular temporary shows, from showcases of the likes of Marlene Dietrichs and Rainer Werner Fassbinder to selections of male nudes from France and exhibition of more documentary nature, celebrating landmark events in the past.
There’s a great library full of resources and research material, photos and paintings, as well as an archive for past and future documentation of homosexual life in the city.
