Neukölln

Neukölln

Multi-cultural Neukölln holds Berlin’s largest concentration of immigrants and, though it was once considered one of the city’s poorer boroughs and worst problem areas (students go through metal detectors at schools here), has recently seen a lot of interest from artists, hipsters trying to escape themselves, and homeowners looking for the next big up-and-coming neighbourhood to settle in. Most have settled in Kreuzkölln, the borderzone between Kreuzberg and Neukölln around the canal in the north, bringing with them an influx of trendy cafes, shops and even a couple of galleries. On the cusp, so to say, it’s an interesting area with the contrast of creatives and the traditional Turkisk community – but don’t go looking for a Starbucks just yet.
