“Hetero-friendly”, the Axel hotels have been turning convention on its head since the Juan and his brother Borja (of the three Julià brothers only the middle one is straight) opened the first here in Barcelona back in 2004. Juan now oversees the chain’s expansion, having recently opened hotels in Buenos Aires and Berlin. Juan won the International Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce’s accolade of Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008.
