La Manuel Alpargateria began as a small workshop in the 1940s, supplying men, women and children with classic espadrilles. It continues this tradition to this day, opening up its workshop to the public and the unerring lines of tourists who flock by to get their summer-shoe fix. Such is the power of this emblematic shoe and its makers, that the shop façade has become something of a symbol of the city. Stacks upon stacks of the classic shoes cover the walls in traditional and modern styles and colors. Brave the queuing process (make sure to ask who’s the last in line upon entering and then to let the next person coming into the store know their place in the queue) and don’t leave Spain without a pair – a bargain, starting at just EUR 8.
