The bar scene may be dying off in Gayxample but the neighbourhood is still one of the best areas for a spot of people-watching and OMA Bistró is perfect for just that. Sitting right across from Plata in the heart of the district, there’s always a reliable flow of talent parading by – and plenty dropping in, too, for a shot of caffeine and a quick bite.
Not that there’s any hurry to leave: It’s large enough to make waits for a table rare – a bonus on weekends, when most other brunch places in the area will test your patience. It’s also spacious enough to let you bitch about the queens two tables down without risking being overheard. Sure, it’s laid-back and friendly here – on the surface.
If the selection of cakes on the counter won’t do the trick, there’s classic breakfast (followed by a set lunch deal) during the week, and a more satisfying brunch offering of eggs, pancakes and the lot on weekends. There’s also a short, but tasty menu of salads, sandwiches and cafe dishes and, when the coffee (excellent) isn’t providing enough of a lift, they do cocktails, too.
