The hair of the dog is supposed to be the best cure for hangovers. Dendê, the resident Jack Russell and name-giver to this friendly all-day, every-day brunch spot in Poble Nou, would probably prefer that you stuck to Bloody Marys. Or a pink lemonade, the house specialty, freshly made and also offered spiked with vodka.
There are solids, too, at Can Dendê. No pretence, just a choice of yummy brunch classics such as eggs Benedict, pancakes that can be had either sweet or savoury, and bagels, all invitingly prepared. And if that sounds too healthy, then go for the French toast, pão de quiejo (one of the owners is Brazilian), and burgers with waffle fries.
Hung over or not, it’s a tasty start to the day if you’re in the area or on the way to the beach. Just make sure to get in an order of spiked lemonade as you join the queue on weekends – like any of Barcelona’s decent brunch places, it’s way too small but a jug of the pink stuff will make the wait fly.
