Finding that not-quite-holy trinity of sun, beach and a good paella can be deceptively hard in Barcelona, but that’s just what’s offered at Chiringuito Pez Vela.
Although the fabulous view of the entire city coastline is undoubtedly the star attraction, the food is actually surprisingly tasty. Paellas – five of them – form the basis of the compact menu, though there’s also a daily fish special and a couple of meat options. The clams with chilli, tomato and basil are particularly yummy but it’s hard to go wrong here.
Set on the beach as part of the W Barcelona hotel, things are kept simple, if not quite as humble as the chiringuito part of its name would suggest. However, belonging to Grupo Tragaluz, you know what you’ll get: tastefully minimalist design, reasonably competent service and a fairly attractive crowd. Just right for a stylish lunch or a casual dinner.
