Chinese food doesn’t have a good reputation in Barcelona – only a seemingly inverse correlation between the number of stray dogs and restaurants in the area – but the Mandarin cuisine is the latest beneficiary of Grupo Tragaluz’s deft touch. The result is La Xina, lushly designed – set inside Hotel 1898, all dark wood and red lacquer, reflecting the light from the fire dragon lantern snaking across the room – and serving up immaculate dim sum and high quality regional dishes. Say ni hao and take a seat at the shared eight-seat round tables on the ground floor or at the upstairs bar.
