This new laid back corner spot is quite a departure from their sugary empire for the Barcelona-based Aussie duo who founded local candy fave Papabubble but, even without the artisan caramels, Federal Café is still plenty sweet.
It’s a terrifically designed place – just how great is the window sill seating for people watching? – with lots of attention paid to detail across two airy floors and a leafy garden terrace that’s simply perfect for a sunny day. The kitchen serves up a light menu of eco friendly bistro-style dishes from largely locally sourced ingredients. Excellent for breakfast or Sunday brunch, it’s no less pleasant for lunch, a light dinner (kitchen closes relatively early on school nights, though), or just as a place to hang out, suck in a smoothie and linger over the magazines laid out for your perusal.
