Amidst the drug dealers, drunken tourists and hustlers out to scam, there’s little to suggest that you’d find this little spot of cool right next to Plaça Reial. Restored to old time’s glory, Café Royale is once again drawing the local coolcats out into tourist territory.

With a bar at front, a tapas bar next door, and a loungey dance area with couches in the back, the place offers something for everybody in a vibe that almost feels more Lower Manhattan than Barcelona. The programme varies by day – Flamenco Tuesdays, jazzy Wednesdays, clubby Fridays, funky Saturdays and housey Sundays – with especially Thursday to Saturday attracting a mixed, gay friendly crowd.
