Update May 2011: Café Olé is in Ibiza for the summer but will be back in Barcelona in the Fall. Until then, The Black Room will fill the void at City Hall on Sundays. You wouldn’t think that suburban trash and gay boys would mix very well, but that’s the formula that Café Olé has worked successfully for over ten years now.
A self-proclaimed polysexual tea dance and with elaborate stage shows of scantily clad gogos of both genders writhing on the podiums, the Barcelona version of Café Olé attracts a bemusing mix of straight gym bunnies, dolled up welfare princesses and party-hungry gay boys dancing to the house-heavy soundtrack.
Stay on the left part of the dance floor to boogie with the boys who like boys, or take a walk around the venue for an anthropological study of the mating rituals of the young and straight. Now at the City Hall club, right next to Plaça Catalunya.
