Update July 2011: The Boss got a pink slip and is no more. Popular with both students and the less scholarly inclined, Strass used to be one of Gayxample’s cookie cutter formula bars: a long narrow space blasting Spanish pop music with drag shows at night.
Relaunched with a new name, new looks and new rules, The Boss has replaced one cookie cutter formula with another and turned it from Spanish quaint to Queer As Folk chic: Lounge-y – or at least with seating available – with one of those ubiquitous colour-changing ambient lighting system and a dark room by the toilets to make sure things don’t get too classy. Shiny new and slightly démodé at the same time, the place remains unpretentious and friendly.
