GAY BARS
Dietrich
A Gayxample classic, and one of the largest gay bars in town, may be short on locals but still fills with tourists come Summer.
La Base
Hankies of all shades hang from the ceiling and set the multi-coloured tone - all tastes are catered for here, except the prudent.
El Cangrejo Eixample
People sing along to the music here, but unless you’ve called this country home for a good while, don’t expect to be able to join in.
Punto BCN
Part of the Arena group, but whereas the discos attract bait for cradle robbers, Punto draws a markedly more mature crowd.
Burdel 74
There aren’t too many places in the Raval where you can sit down and enjoy a semi-civilised drink, but this kitsch classic is one of them.
People Lounge
A relaxed atmosphere without attitude, partly explained by the rapidly receding hairlines of the, ahem, mature crowd.
Lust
More space and a less pumped-up crowd than at its busy neighbour, a fine stop-off spot to indulge in a drink before hitting the clubs.
El Cangrejo Raval
Small, smoky and pumping out loud Spanish 80s kitsch pop from its tinny loudspeakers, it’s not the place to go for an intimate tête-à-tête.
El Balcón de Aquiles
A Raval neighbourhood favourite, not least thanks to its popular Wednesday early evening aperitif.
The Boss
New name, new looks and new rules, no longer Spanish quaint but Queer As Folk chic for both students and the less scholarly inclined.
