The gay bars in Raval typically offer stiffer drinks, a lighter attitude and a more mixed crowd than their counterparts in Gayxample. Frutti Pop, started by local party queen, Silvie, initiator of the mythical Sunday Tea Dance at Apolo, ticks all of those boxes. Hidden in a side street just off Plaça Universitat, the crowd is young and friendly and the drinks are cheap and strong. Early evenings on Wednesdays are particularly busy when free tapas are served with any drink between 20-22.
