UPDATE NOVEMBER 2010: LAST NIGHT SATURDAY NOV 27. El Balcón de Aquiles, run by the hospitable Dani and Anie, has quickly established itself as another Raval neighbourhood favourite, not least thanks to its popular Wednesday early evening aperitif where free nibbles are offered with drinks.
With its slightly quaint décor and crowd of creatives, modernas and other seemingly underemployed, but friendly locals, it’ll inevitably draw comparisons with the nearby La Penúltima, the ever popular Raval gay classic. Truth is, there’s not much between the two bars and you’re likely to run into the same people either place, though the atmosphere may be even more laid back (if that’s possible) and a little less smoke-filled (now, that one’s easy), thanks to the higher ceilings.
