Photos of the German actress Marlene Dietrich adorn the walls of this bar, named after a woman probably more butch than most of the men who frequent it. It’s a Gayxample classic and one of the largest gay bars in town but has fallen out of favour among locals of late. However, come Summer and it fills with tourists, enticed by its ubiquity in the guide books and the nightly performances by drag artists, acrobats and dancers that bring the dancefloor to a stop.
