GAY BARS

Sky Bar by Axel
The venue is agreeable enough and there’s always something going on, but it’s during the summer months that the Sky Bar by Axel rules.
El Balcón de Aquiles
A relatively new Raval neighbourhood favourite, not least thanks to its popular Wednesday early evening aperitif.
Bim Bam Bum
A new addition to the scene run by a couple of veteran party promoters, both the staff and the customers at Bim Bam Bum tend to boast deep gene pools.
Frutti Pop
Bars in Raval are known for offering stiffer drinks, a lighter attitude and a more mixed crowd than those in Gayxample. This is no exception.
Museum
David replicas but no relic of the past: Sugar sweet music videos attract a mixed and friendly crowd of twinks, hipsters and gym bunnies.
La Penultima
Relaxed and friendly, it’s one of the favoured hangouts of the twink and fashion-on-a-budget crowd, who like the kitsch, mismatched décor and cheap drinks.
Plata
They could’ve left the entire room in a shambles and nobody would’ve noticed, as all of the action takes place by the full-length windows.
Dacksy
One of the few places in the neighbourhood with a seating area, this relaxed lounge is the perfect spot to start the night off or end with a nightcap.
Al Màximo
Tiny, friendly and intimate, it’s like a peculiar (and smoky) version of the Cheers sitcom with a Mariah Carey soundtrack.
Chiringuito Gay
Open every day in Summer, it gets particularly busy on Sundays when the line of speedo-clad hotties queuing for mojitos gets criminally long and cruisy.
Strass
Another long narrow space in Gayxample that blasts Spanish pop music, popular with both students and the less scholarly inclined.
Átame
A predominantly young, camp and suburban crowd liven up the place, as do the regular live shows on the small dance floor in the back.
Dietrich
A Gayxample classic, and one of the largest gay bars in town, may be short on locals but still fills with tourists come Summer.
La Base
Hankies of all shades hang from the ceiling and set the multi-coloured tone - all tastes are catered for here, except the prudent.
El Cangrejo Eixample
People sing along to the music here, but unless you’ve called this country home for a good while, don’t expect to be able to join in.
