The Sol Meliá group, mostly known for family friendly and mid-tier business hotels, are betting big in an attempt to turn their luxury boutique brand ME, into party and leisure hotspots.
The rooms in the Barcelona flagship are fine and the newly Michelin-starred 24th floor Dos Cielos restaurant, by twin gastro chef brothers Javier and Sergio Torres, is recommendable (for views and nosh alike) but pricey. But to bring in the young and beautiful crowd, the entire lobby area has turned into a DJ lounge on weekends and Pete Wentz’s Angels & Kings bar concept has been imported for the sixth floor where you also find the very agreeable pool deck.
Happening or annoyingly noisy? Let’s call it ‘unusual’ for an establishment of this calibre, but the hotel is not a bad option if you’re stranded in Poble Nou, the industrial outskirts of the city, and it's walking distance-ish close to Mar Bella, the gayest of the city's beaches.
