Heading further south towards Tarragona, the beaches become wider and sandier and, being further away from the temperamental weather fronts caused by the Pyrenees, with more reliable sunshine. You can reach the main beaches in Tarragona, Salou and Cambrils by train, but it’s recommendable to go by car, as you can then get to some of the real gems like the small Cala Crancs east of Salou.
