SITGES

Although easily reached and only 30-40 minutes away by train, these days more beachgoers tend to stay in Barcelona rather than make the trek to Sitges. The town became a popular gay destination in the 80s and 90s but tends to attract a more mature crowd these days, with younger visitors staying put in Barcelona. Those who do go are rewarded with nicer facilities, cleaner sand and clearer water. There are actually several beaches in Sitges, from the Aiguadolç beach (and its small nudist cove) to the left (facing the water) of the old town, the main beaches with a sizeable gay section, to the rocky nudist beaches to the far right past the golf course. Don’t get lost in the cruising grounds in the woods behind the rail tracks.
