Sure, vodka is supposed to be less fattening (no carbs!) and give you less of a hangover but in between vodka-tonics, you have to wonder what’s become of the humble G&T. Rather than just wonder, this Barcelona collective have set up their own gin joint in the bohemian hood of Gràcia under the direction of award-winning mixology master Alberto Pizarro.
Named after Robert ‘Bobby’ Gallow, whose pacifier was dipped in Hayman’s Old Tom gin as a baby, you have to love the stuff as if you’d been weaned on it to get the most out of the menu here. From Tanqueray Ten to smoked cocktails and infusions of various botanical delights, it’s like rediscovering an old favourite all over again.
More of a chill-out than a party place, everything is woody, warm and a little bit retro. With a little help from Normal – an interior design company that is anything but – recycling includes old desk tops fitted to the walls as tables, different doors affixed to the front of the bar, and a bathroom door that looks like a cupboard. And that’s before you’ve started drinking.
